It’s all Happening in 2012
Four months ago, I took The Epic Journey which lead me to where I am today… St. Augustine, Florida. The oldest town in America. Though I thought that Columbus landed on Plymouth Rock, in reality the Spanish landed here first and the Italians just stole their thunder. What typical behavior pasean!
How is everyone this 2012?! I am in a similar state post Epic Brazil Journey/post Epic Roadtrip to the Dirty South … still single, still broke and still fabulous. The differences are as noted, my geographical location and well I am now 27. Sigh. Since Brazil, I have become a non-stop, motivated explorer of where I should go in this world next, what is my next move and how can I get there. Sound familiar anyone?
I found when I went to URI that no matter where I geographically find myself, there I am. Same things keeping me for gaining true momentum to get to this ideal place in life=corporate/government job, stable relationship, possible marriage/baby, settling down, blah, blah.
In my recent travels, I find no matter where I geographically find myself, there are always new friends who are trying to get out of where they are geographically or otherwise. And isn’t that ironic since that’s exactly what a lot of my old friends and I are trying to do too. Is this an endless cycle of the grass is always greener syndrom or is this a generation of 20 somethings not growing up fast enough for society?
My yoga instructor here in St. Auggy says you must, “Be Present.” He also said, “You must have done this before, your downward dog is righteous!” Duh?!
In this keep it moving world where we are constantly connected through social media, I can’t help but always want to be where I am not, a.k.a. my bff’s first child, #NYCNightlife, Pepe’s pizza, a few certain unnamed people (wink), etc. Staying present in an ADD world has become a seriously, complex science of balancing family, friends, career, money and giving your mind, body and soul love. And eventually a grown-up relationship with another person!
As an unconventional girl, I find myself saying “Screw it!” I took the keep it moving attitude and my broke, fabulous self down South. Made a few mistakes and added a little ADD and continued networking up and down the coast until I found something.
Stay present, accept situations you cannot change and adjust yourself as needed.
Currently, I am waiting for two contracted positions in Florida and the Bahamas but I have a hard time sitting still. My thoughts and progress may have been brought on by slowing down. There is a whole hearted difference in this geographical move for me. The South has brought me to a slower pace if that is even possible. The Rhode Island Reggae mentality mixed with a sweet southern swag and lots of pick-up trucks, whiskey happy hours and fish tacos.
I am looking forward to posting some fun, inspiring and outrageous footage of my upcoming spring into summer journey. Destination Preview: Panama City Beach, FL Spring Break, Miami Music Week, Nassau, Bahamas Spring Break, and a hopeful road trip to New York residency!!!
A good friend told me before I left, “Jess, just go and everything will fall into place when you get there.” I’m not positive this is true but you can decide. I hope this inspires you to take a new road but stay present while driving; things will fall into place.
Love and Miss you all!

Onde podemos ir dancar?
Let’s take it back to Rio. In the neighborhood of Lapa, we find a nightlife like I’ve never seen. A regular friday night in Rio brings hundreds maybe a few thousand people out to this historical neighborhood to drink, dance and straight up get wild. In the clubs, bars or street, there are people of all ages out to getting loose with *caipirinhas in had and samba in the air.
I can compare it to Mardi Gras on Bourbon Street or possibly Acapulco during spring break but this is just a “normal” Friday night in Rio de Janeiro…
*Caipirinha is Brazil’s national drink. WARNING: cachaca is fire water
